During school holidays we offer Pony Days suitable for Children aged 5 - 16. The days cover a variety of equestrian activities and include supervised stable management. 
Our pony days are based on the ideals of the Pony Club which are:

• To encourage young people to ride and learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses.

• To give instruction in riding and horsemastership and the proper care of animals

• To promote the highest standards of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty to create strength of character and self discipline. 

 

SAMPLE DAY (NB every day is different)

9.00  - Arrive and meet the other children, hat fitting, safety briefing

9.15  - Supervised grooming and pampering followed by tacking up for the activities of the day

10.00 - Group Riding Lesson

11.00 - Return the ponies to the stables and take a break.

11.30 - Pony Care Activity. Learn about mucking out, feeding, bandaging, rugging, etc (appropriate to the experience and ability of the group.)

12.30 - Lunch

1.30 -  Riding activity. Have a go at vaulting, polocrosse, Mounted Games etc.

2:30 - Return the ponies to the stables and if time: games, quiz etc

3.00 - Practical hands on activity OR Arts and Crafts

4.00 - Return to parents.

Each Pony Play day is slightly different, so you can do as many as you like without getting bored.  

 
Some of the activities can include:
  • Carriage Driving - How to harness up and have a go at carriage driving
  • Hacking - Enjoy a ride through Joydens Woods
  • Handy Pony - Obstacle course
  • Lungeing - How to fit equipment and lunge a horse for exercise
  • Mounted Games - Gymkhana games and races
  • Musical rides - Have fun performing complex routines on your horse
  • Natural Horsemanship - Learn how to understand your horse better
  • Polocrosse - A team sport that combines Polo and Lacrosse
  • Pony Care - Various topics of horse and pony care selected from the Pony Club syllabus, e.g. Equine First Aid, Poisonous Plants, Mucking Out, Feeding, Bandaging, Rugs, etc.
  • Show Jumping - Course building, how to walk a course and jumping
  • Showing - how to prepare and present your pony for in-hand competition
  • Vaulting - Gymnastic on horseback
  • Western Riding - have a go at Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Roping
9.00am - 4.00pm
Price £65 members / £70 non-members

Children should bring their own packed lunch.  Additional refreshments may be purchased from the vending machine or Cafe on site. Please ensure children have suitable clothing for the weather conditions and are wearing suitable riding boots (boots with a small heel, NOT TRAINERS)
